Even when you don’t feel like waking up to catch the sunrise, you can have this gorgeous reminder of the warm summer mornings on Hatteras Island. Clouds on the horizon often disrupt the sunrise for the barrier islands, so seeing this much morning color is a rare sight to behold.
One of the unique features of Hatteras Island is being able to watch the sun rise and set over a body of water. In many coastal places, you only get one or the other! We captured this stunning, rainbow colored sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean, overlooking The Point on the south end of Hatteras Island. Two popular sightseeing destinations of the area are in view: The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, as well as Shelly Island.
